Sunday: Flores - Sabolan - Sangean
In Monalisa Diving & Expedition Komodo our services start at the Bali airport where we catch the 10.30 am flight to Labuhanbajo, a sleepy town on the western tip of Flores. Upon arrival, short transfer to the harbour. After embarcation we immediately depart to nearby Sabolan Island while having our first lunch on board. We spend the afternoon snorkeling, swimming and beach-combing. Around 18.00 pm, we set sail again for a 6 hours crossing to the island of Sangean, where we spend the remainder of the night at anchor. Divers will be able to enjoy their first check-out dive in Sabolan.
Monday: Sangean - Sumbawa - Banta
We start the day by exploring Sangean, a massive active volcano that towers almost 2,000 meters above sea level. The hike is easy, through the uninhabited lower slopes of the volcano. After a one hour sail at midday, we spend the afternoon visiting villages of boat builders, farmers and weavers on the island of Sumbawa and the rest of the day we anchor off a secluded beach. Late afternoon sail to Banta Island where the MONA LISA will lay for the night. Divers to enjoy 3 dives today, on some very recently discovered spots on the Sangean north coast and along the coast of Sumbawa.
Tuesday: Banta - Gili Lawa Darat
We spend the entire morning on uninhabited Banta Island in front of a beach that is covered with the finest variety of pure pink sand while exceptional coral reefs are just a few meters away. We have the whole island for ourselves. After a short midday sail, we arrive at Gili Lawa Darat Island where more kaleidoscopic coral reef are to be explored. By late afternoon, you can join a hike uphill to enjoy a spectacular view over the surrounding islands of the Komodo National Park. Early evening sail to Rinca, where we spend the night in a totally quiet cove. Divers will have 3 dives on exceptional spots such as “GPS point” and “Crystal rock”.
Wednesday : Rinca - Komodo
As the sun rises we start a 2 hour hike through the wilderness of Rinca hoping to catch a first glimpse of the elusive Komodo giant lizards. We also may encounter deer, monkeys, wild boar and buffaloes, all amidst breathtaking scenery. Late morning sail to a remote beach on Komodo Island for a few hours of snorkeling, beach combing and relaxing. Later in the day, you can choose to go ashore on Komodo Island proper for another hike through the bush and to have a look at a huge colony of intriguing flying foxes. Night at anchor in Komodo. Divers will be taken for 2 day-dives in spectacular spots, “Batu Bolong”, “Tatawa Besar”, “Tatawa Kecil” (the final selection depending on the state of the tide and the currents), then for a night dive at “Pantai Merah”.
Thursday : Padar - Nusa Kode
Early morning sail to spectacular Padar Island, a place crowded with deer that offers breathtaking scenery. Short morning hike in the hills. Alternatively, another long pink beach and transparent waters will be the decor for your morning. Midday sail to Nusa Kode island, at the southern tip of Rinca. The vessel will sail into a canyon-like passage where we anchor until the next morning. Afternoon swimming, snorkeling and relaxing in spectacular scenery. Divers to enjoy 3 dives in Padar and Nusa Kode area.
Friday : Rinca
We take it easy this morning with a bit of snorkeling and swimming or even a short hike on the southern shores of Rinca where again we may be lucky enough to spot a Komodo “dragon”. Mid-morning, we all board our main auxiliary to spend the remainder of the day exploring the passage between Rinca and Flores, a rarely visited area of secluded beaches, mangrove forest, protected waters and exquisite scenery. Lunch on a desert island. In the afternoon, we visit a local Bajo village, built on stilts along the shore, before rejoining our vessel north of Rinca. Finally we organize an evening BBQ on a quiet spot ashore. Night at anchor. You will get the unforgotable experience in your life.
Saturday : Flores
Enjoy a last swim before we proceed to the harbour of Labuhanbajo. A local bus will bring you for a short visit of the local market and – if time permits – to an intriguing bamboo forest where the caves may have been inhabited in prehistoric times by recently discovered pre-humans. By midday, we’ll be at the airport for our return flight to Bali where we will land at 14.15 pm.
